When I first started karate back in the '80s I remember trying to get my hands on as much information as possible. I must have read my club syllabus a thousand times, and every time I went to class I know I frustrated my teachers with all the questions...
I remember the first book my parents bought me. It had a cheesy photo of a guy doing a roundhouse kick against his opponent. But what was funny was that he wasn't looking at his "enemy" but right at the camera with look that would remind you of Jean Claude Van Damme in slow motion while making kiai...
In all the books and magazines I've read, I've learned a whole bunch of stuff... some of it was good, but most of it was recycled information... the same boring talk about basic karate technique that you see in every book at Barnes and Noble.
If you're starting out now, you don't need anyone else other than your sensei to demonstrate and teach you basic technique. That's what they're there for. To show you how they want you to punch and kick. And as long as you enjoy it, that's great.
The cool thing is that you can READ and educate yourself with other SUPPORTING information that will HELP you IMPROVE your understanding no matter what style you practice.
That's why I created the KarateTips newsletter. I wanted to give serious people the EDGE. I wanted to give serious students the EXTRA information that could ACCELERATE their learning and IMPROVE their skills far more quickly than without it.
Think about it...
When you go to class, is it JUST YOU and your sensei? Or do they have other students to help also? Can you get them to focus on you 100% of the time and assist you with EVERY question you might have?
I don't know about you but when I first started I was kinda embarrassed or intimidated to ask a question in FEAR of being wrong or thought of as a knuckelhead.
So to help YOU out, I created the KarateTips newsletter that has a whole bunch of different ideas, concepts and tactics that you can use together with your existing style no matter your skill level.
The information in it is worth the price at least of an annual martial arts magazine subscription at $69.95 but the cool thing is that it's yours FREE when you sign up for it below.
It contains tips, articles, information, interviews, product reviews and recommendations of things that I've found of personal benefit. It's full of creative ideas and fresh content... not recycled techniques from the '60s.
Since 2002 over 18,000 people have subscribed to the KarateTips newsletter.
Here's what some of them say...
